Launching the Museum of Liverpool

Date Posted: 28/02/2011

Merseyside will welcome the brand new Museum of Liverpool, as it opens its first phase in July. Located in a purpose-made landmark building on the waterfront, the museum aims to reflect the city's global significance through its geography, history and culture.

Groups can explore how the port, its people, and their creative and sporting history have shaped the city. The galleries will include Wondrous Place, People's Republic, Global City, Little Liverpool and Skylight.

The second phase is due for completion at the end of 2011, and will see the opening of The Great Port, Liverpool Overhead Railway, History Detectives, City Soldiers, and a 192-seat theatre.

The Museum of Liverpool has been designed for a high level of community involvement. There will be many social and learning spaces within the museum - a brasserie, shop, cafe, media studio and resource centre activity rooms. The theatre should be equipped for community productions, lectures and small productions.
