Practical basketry for beginners with Tracy Standish

Knoll Gardens in Devon has announced its 2016 event programme which will feature talks from local experts, craftspeople and wildlife charities.

Visitors can also expect to see plant fairs, willow weaving classes, wildlife walks, pottery talks, herbal medicine workshops and Knoll’s ever-popular grass masterclasses.

Spring

Spring events include a specialist plant fair on 23rd April and a willow basket workshop on 28th May.

The willow workshop is suitable for beginners and will be led by Tracy Standish. Groups are advised to book places in advance so as not to miss the chance to make their own practical, round willow baskets to take home.

Summer

During the warmer months of the year, visitors can enjoy a container talk with a twist on 18th June; Breaking the Rules with potter and garden sculptor Jonathan Garrett will explain how containers and pots can awaken inactive spaces in the garden.

A plant medicine walk and workshop with Rachel Heathcote will take place on 2nd July, revealing the secrets of Knoll’s natural medicine chest during a walk and a workshop on herbs.

And on 30th July, guests can join a Beautiful Butterflies guided walk around the gardens. This is a free event but GTOs are advised to book places in advance.

Autumn

Autumn’s highlights include ornamental grass masterclasses with Neil Lucas on 15th September and 6th October, during which guests will learn about grasses and how to use them in a garden setting, covering everything from maintenance to designing with grasses.

And on 8th October, a hedgerow basket weaving workshop will take place. Discover how to use hedgerow and garden materials and learn different weaving techniques to create a frame basket to take home.
