Ironbridge group package celebrates sport and industry

Date Posted: 22/05/2012

Celebrating London 2012, take advantage of a special group package from Ironbridge Gorge Museums encompassing two of Shropshire’s key historical towns - Much Wenlock and Coalbrookdale.

The medieval town of Much Wenlock is recognised as being the spiritual birthplace of the Modern Olympic Games.

Coalbrookdale - the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution - is where Abraham Darby perfected an iron-smelting technique that would change the world.

Group travel organisers can combine a visit to the two towns and discover how this corner of Shropshire changed the world of sport and industry.

Group trips will begin at the recently opened Much Wenlock Museum, featuring new displays telling the story of the history of the town. You can then embark on the Wenlock Olympian Trail of the market town.

Located a 15-minute drive away is Coalbrookdale - the historical heart of the Ironbridge Gorge World Heritage Site. Take a group tour of the Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron, and find out more about the history of iron-making in the gorge.

Free coach parking is available at the museum site, and group travel organisers are entitled to complimentary admission.
