Hyde Park Winter Wonderland

The 11th year of Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park, London, will run for six weeks this Christmas, between November and January.

The event is free and offers a wide array of attractions, shows, rides and festive food. Highlights will include a traditional fairground of rides, a Bavarian Village, and the Magical Ice Kingdom.

Winter Wonderland: what to expect

The Bavarian Village will offer mulled wine and authentic German beer, plus there will be a number of food stalls selling all things festive for eating.

The Magical Ice Kingdom, meanwhile, encompasses displays made from real ice and snow. Previous displays have seen sculptures of towering battlements, knights jousting on horseback and a dragon. It’s described as a ‘frozen experience’ and provides plenty of photo opportunities for snap-happy visitors.

Also at this year’s Winter Wonderland will be what’s said to be the UK’s largest outdoor ice rink, plus a Giant Observation Wheel, which illuminates the London skyline.

Specific attractions, shows and rides for this year are set to be announced in due course, but visitors should expect to be offered experiences similar to last year’s event.

Winter Wonderland 2016 included over 100 rides that offered spinning, flying and dropping from a great height. For visitors that enjoy a slower pace, there were plenty of gentler rides, fun houses and games.

In addition, Santa Land offered children and visitors the chance to explore Santa’s workshop, meet the elves and even ride on the Santa Express. Last year also included a Nutcracker on Ice show and the Circus Megadome.

Further details will be announced for 2017 shortly.
