Hurtigruten launches new short break land programme

Date Posted: 17/01/2013

Group travel organisers planning to visit Norway can explore the island of Spitsbergen with Hurtigruten’s new short break land programme.

Developed in conjunction with Spitsbergen Travel, Hurtigruten has launched a number of breaks for group travellers, which include the chance to experience ice caving, dog sledding and a snowmobile safari for two, three or four days.

All trips are centred around Longyearbyen which is the closest place to the North Pole.

Ice caving and arctic summer nights

Enjoy high season in Spitsbergen on a Return of the Sun, Ice Caving and More expedition. Groups can explore the arctic desert in March on a 45-kilometre snowmobile safari trip, and experience a wilderness evening at a local camp.

You can also enjoy the safari trip and the wilderness evening on one of the Endless Arctic Summer Nights excursions in May. Group travellers can opt for a dog sledding trip with the opportunity to drive the huskies as well.

The Northern Lights and Christmas in Spitsbergen

Heading to Spitsbergen in October means a chance to witness the Northern Lights.

The Crystal Clear and Colourful itinerary takes place at the same time as the Blues Festival, and group travel organisers can combine a visit to the festival with a boat trip over the Isfjord, as well as a dog cart ride and a wilderness evening.

Opt to spend Christmas in Spitsbergen on a Magical Darkness and Northern Lights trip, and experience a snowmobile safari, a dog sledding trip, and a wilderness evening.
