Date Posted: 20/12/2014

The 13th century Welsh fortress will get a 21st century tweak in 2015.

Visitors to Harlech Castle in north Wales will soon be able to explore the building’s history in a contemporary new way, thanks to a new visitors’ centre.

The new area will tell the story of the castle and its inhabitants across more than 800 years of history and will feature interactive sculptures, graphic panels, and a dynamic soundscape.

Harlech Castle was originally built in 1282 by Edward I who wanted to it to keep watch over Snowdonia.

It was one of the most formidable structures in what was known as the Iron Ring of fortresses and for this reason, the castle was made into a World Heritage Site in 1986. Harlech is one of the most treasured castles in Wales.

To find out more about opening times, admission prices and group tours visit the Harlech Castle area of the Welsh Cadw website.
