Heritage Motor Centre renamed British Motor Museum

The Heritage Motor Centre, home to the world’s largest collection of historic British cars, has recently announced that it is to be renamed the British Motor Museum, which will coincide with a major refurbishment of the site.

The change of name to the museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire, is said to reflect the national and international significance of its collections, as accredited by the Arts Council England ‘Designated’ status.

The refurbishment of the museum will take place this winter and will include the development of a new £4 million Collection Centre.

The investment by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust will see a new visitor entrance installed. From there groups will be led on to themed zones, such as the Movie Cars zone, the Prototypes zone and the Sports Car zone.

For those who visited the Heritage Motor Centre previously, popular experiences such as getting up close to the cars and looking underneath the bonnets will still be available, however new interactive content, including sound, film and touch screens will be fresh additions to the museum. 

Collections Centre

The Collections Centre will store approximately 250 vehicles from the reserve collections of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust and the Jaguar Heritage Trust, many of which have never been seen before by the public.

Behind-the-scenes tours to view both the cars and the conservation work in progress in the vehicle workshops will be available to groups.

Entry to the Collections Centre will be included within the museum ticket price. 

From the 30th November 2015 to 13th February 2016, when the redevelopment will take place, the British Motor Museum will be closed to the public.
