Happy birthday to the Mid Hants Railway

Date Posted: 16/01/2015

The living history steam railway in the heart of Hampshire will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2015 and it’s inviting groups to celebrate with it.

Opened in October 1865, the Mid Hants Railway became famous for transporting the local watercress crop to markets in London, earning it the nickname ‘Watercress Line’ which it still uses today.

Throughout 2015, the railway will be encouraging groups to mark its historic milestone with it.

Parties can choose to enjoy a ploughman’s lunch or afternoon tea on board the train, as it makes its way along the ten-mile track.

They can also book a behind the scenes tour, to get up close to the locomotives and discover the preservation work that’s taking place on site.

Discounts are available for groups of 15 and 30. Combined attraction bookings can also be made through the Watercress Line.
