About Dreamgirls

The anticipated musical will premiere on  the West End, 35 years after its original Broadway production.

Dreamgirls focuses on the journey of a young female singing trio from Chicago, Illinois, called The Dreams. The musical is inspired by the 1960s music scene, and tells the story of the group’s struggles with the show business.

A film adaptation was released in 2006 and starred Beyoncé Knowles, Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy and Jamie Foxx.

Cast and crew

Dreamgirls will feature well-known songs such as I Am Changing, And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going and One Night Only and will star Amber Riley of Glee fame who will play Effie White.

The cast will also include Ibinabo Jack – who has performed in theatre shows such as Legally Blonde, Hot Stuff and Little Shop of Horrors - as Lorrell Robinson, and Liisi LaFontaine as Deena Jones.

The production will be directed and choreographed by award-winning Casey Nicholaw who is known for his directing and choreographing of Something Rotten! and The Drowsy Chaperone.

He also choreographed The Book of Mormon.

Dreamgirls will open at the Savoy Theatre in November 2016 and will show through to March 2017.
