Groundhog Day adapted into a musical

Date Posted: 23/04/2015

The Old Vic has announced that it will be the home to the world premiere of a musical adaptation of the popular 1990s Christmas film, Groundhog Day early next year.

The show has been named as one of the London theatre’s inaugural season for its new artistic director, Matthew Warchus.

Matthew has joined forces with composer and lyricist Tim Minchin (pictured), choreographer Peter Darling, designer Rob Howell and writer Danny Rubin to collaborate on the show.

Groundhog Day is the story of Phil Connors, an arrogant Pittsburgh TV weatherman who, when sent to cover the annual Groundhog Day event in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, finds himself caught in a time loop where he is forced to repeat the same day again and again…and again.

Dates to be announced, but tickets for the production will be on sale from September.
