Grand tour revival reveals Chatsworth treasures

Date Posted: 10/12/2014

Museums, galleries and a stately home in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire have decided to resurrect a Victorian tradition, the Grand Tour.

Taking its name from the formative cultural experience of the 18th century gentleman, this modern day Grand Tour will reveal hidden treasures from private collections, juxtaposing them with contemporary art exhibitions across four venues: Nottingham Contemporary, Chatsworth, Derby Museums and The Harley Gallery, Welbeck.

The project will be presented over two seasons, July to September 2015 and March to June 2016.

During the first season, artist Pablo Bronstein will curate an exhibition at Nottingham Contemporary, displaying historical items from Chatsworth at the contemporary art gallery alongside a range of his original drawings.

Group tours can also see work by Turner Prize-winner Simon Starling, Rose English, Peter Blake and architect Rem Koolhaas.
