Glenn Close to star in London run of Sunset Boulevard

Date Posted: 22/09/2015

Glenn Close will make her West End debut as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, which will run at the London Coliseum from 1st April until 7th May 2016.

With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and directed by Lonny Price, Sunset Boulevard is based on the original Paramount film by Billy Wilder and is being put on by the English National Opera, which resides at the London Coliseum.

Glenn Close will be reprising her role from the Broadway production directed by Trevor Nunn, for which she has previously won a Tony Award, a Drama Desk Award, a Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award and a Dramalogue Award.

Norma Desmond, an iconic faded silent-screen star who lives in a fantasy world, sits alone in her mansion on Sunset Boulevard - but is interrupted when impoverished screen writer Joe Gillis crashes into her life.

Joe is persuaded by Norma to work on a film script - she wants to be back in front of the cameras - but he ends up seduced by her and the luxurious lifestyle he has found himself in.

Caught in a claustrophobic trap, Joe’s love for another woman leads him to try and break free with dramatic results.
