Free strawberries and cream for groups on the Bure Valley Railway

Date Posted: 01/03/2016

The Bure Valley Railway in Norfolk will be giving free local strawberries and cream to every group travelling onboard one of its trains on Saturdays and Sundays in July.

The train journey along the Bure Valley Railway is nine miles long and goes through the Broads National Park from Aylsham to Wroxham.

Trains depart from both Aylsham and Wroxham regularly throughout each day.

Groups will be able to enjoy a traditional summer treat of strawberries and cream in the Whistlestop Café at Aylsham.

When booking a train ticket at the railway station, visitors will be given a token which they should take to the café to exchange for the free sweet treats.

The café seats up to 80 people and provides everything from a cup of tea to a full meal. There is also a specially priced two-course group menu available.

Ride and cruise

GTOs can book their group onto a train and cruise package, which combines a steam train journey with an hour and a half cruise on the Norfolk Broads.

As part of this package, groups need to get the train to Wroxham Station and walk to Wroxham Bridge, where the river boat will pick them up.

Visitors can opt for the reverse order if desired – going on the river cruise first, then taking the scenic train ride.

Walking groups

A purpose built footpath and cycle path runs alongside the nine mile length of the track from Aylsham to Wroxham, so active groups might like to take the train one way, and then walk back through the countryside.

Walkers can join any of the Bure Valley Railway's scheduled services, and there are intermediate stations at Brampton, Buxton and Coltishall for those not able to walk the full nine miles.
