Following its ten year restoration, the £4.2 million revamp will bring Flying Scotsman on a trip around the UK this summer, including a visit to Harringworth.

The world famous train will pass over the landmark Harringworth Viaduct in June during the village’s 2016 fete.

For the train’s first visit through the village, there will be car parking and refreshments in the village for those wanting to watch the event. Visitors will also have the option of taking a walk from the centre of the village for a higher vantage point.

Flying Scotsman will travel over the viaduct, which is the longest masonry viaduct in Britain. This is due to take place at around 10am on the 4th June and will return at 8pm in the evening, pulled by a diesel locomotive.

The train will pass through the village once more on Saturday 25th June, which will coincide with the traditional Harringworth Village Fete.

The fete will be held in the grounds of the Manor House, with a car boot sale and car parking nearby. New attractions for this year’s fete include market stalls, family activities and refreshments such as Pimm’s, a barbeque and afternoon cream teas.

Paul Kirkman, director, National Railway Museum, commented, “As a national museum, we are committed to ensuring that as many people as possible can enjoy our remarkable collections, including icons like Flying Scotsman.”

When the train is not on Britain’s tracks, it resides at the National Railway Museum.

Other events

To celebrate the journey, an exhibition all about the Harringworth Viaduct will be taking place in Harringworth. The viaduct was opened in 1,300 and reaches the Wellend Valley.

Harringworth will also be home to Open Gardens and Afternoon Tea on 12th June. This event will give visitors the chance to stroll around a variety of different gardens and plant collections, followed by afternoon tea, home-made cakes and cream teas served in the village hall.
