Floors Castle, Gardens and Grounds’ new developments to its gardens will uncover more of the site to groups.
Groups will now be able to enjoy a new Victorian Walled Garden feature at the attraction in Kelso, Scotland.
For the first time the vinery and original glasshouses, which produce soft fruits and house plants will be opened to groups. The potting shed, built in approximately 1860 will also be available for groups to view.
Meanwhile there will be a new perennial garden, which will take inspiration from the wild but will also use garden plants to add colour. It will provide a contrast to the vibrant and established herbaceous borders in the grounds.
The castle is home to Roxburghe family and the new garden development is being championed by the Duchess of Roxburghe following a £200,000 investment.
Floors Castle tours
As well as garden tours, Floors Castle offers tours including the Art & Tapestry tour and the History of Floors Castle tour. Alternatively both the castle and grounds can be enjoyed in a self-led visit.
The Roxburghe estate also has two cafés – the Terrace café and the Courtyard café – which offer a range of homemade breads, cakes and meals, made using estate produce as well as local produce from the Scottish Borders. There is also a deli on site.
Forest and river walks
Groups can enjoy two planned walks on the Roxburghe estate, along the banks of the river Tweed or in the woodland surrounding Floors Castle.
During a forest walk, goldcrests, tawny owls and red squirrels are said to often be seen, whilst by the riverside groups can hope to see herons and green plovers feeding at the water’s edge.
Both walks start at the castle and finish at the Terrace café.
