Annual north-east food and drink festival EAT! NewcastleGateshead, taking place from the 17th to 26th June, has announced its full programme, promising ten days of eclectic foodie events.

2011 marks the fifth year of EAT! NewcastleGateshead, which champions local food producers, restaurants and culinary talent in the north-east. Featuring a packed programme of events, beginning with The Big EAT!, visiting groups can look forward to street food markets, themed satellite festivals, cookery demonstrations, and competitions.

Events are set to include the Food Heroes Tasting Market, a Chocolate Festival, a Chilli and Beer Festival, and the chance to take your pick of the morning’s catch as a local fishing boat lands on the quayside.

Additional highlights include Cakebook, which will see the creation of a giant edible map of north England using landmark heritage structures; The Geat North Eco-Art-Feast, an environmentally-friendly feast celebrating Hannah Glasse’s cookbook, The Art of Cookery; and the return of the Artisan House Party, a series of food-making themed parties with special guest artisans.
