Festival of Archaeology at Salisbury Museum

Date Posted: 27/01/2015

Salisbury’s new festival will aim to inspire public awareness of archaeology.

The museum’s Wessex Gallery of Archaeology had its grand opening last year. The new festival will run over the weekend of 18th to 19th of July, with the hopes of inspiring further public engagement and interest in archaeology.

The museum’s West Gallery displays a number of important finds from high profile English Heritage sites like Stonehenge.

Alex Langlands, archaeologist and presenter of BBC TV’s Wartime Farm said: "With Stonehenge, Avebury, Old Sarum and the cathedral at Salisbury, there are few counties in the south of England that boast a better line up of archaeological sites.”

Offering a series of presentations and talks with leading figures in the archaeological community, the festival runs with the hope of promoting the Wessex Gallery’s own ambitions of becoming the foremost institution at the centre of England’s archaeological heartland.
