Expert-led art tours visit Morocco, Israel and China

In partnership with The Royal Academy of Arts, Cox & Kings has created 18 new expert-led art tours for 2013, with destinations including Morocco, Israel and China.

Particularly relevant for special interest groups - enthusiasts and experts alike - with a passion for the arts, there are three different types of tour for 2013:

  • Art Treasure Tours - Provides an introduction to the art, architecture or archaeology of a region or city.
  • Music Tours - Study the life and work of composers, such as ‘In the Footsteps of Wagner’ which in the 200th anniversary year of Wagner’s birth includes tickets to see a performance of one of his operas in the theatre that staged its premiere.
  • Focus Tours - Providing further emphasis on a particular area of interest such as an architectural movement or specific artist. ‘Caravaggio & Bernini’s High Baroque’ includes a visit to the Casino Boncompagni Ludovisi to see Caravaggio's only mural.

Many of the tours include access to artworks not normally accessible to the general public, or talks by curators of local exhibitions.

Tour highlights for 2013 include:

  • Morocco: Medinas, Mosques & Mountains - Exploring the Romans, Islamic and French imperial legacies of Morocco's most historic cities.
  • South Africa: Art in the Cape - Combining the western Cape's most popular sights with public and private art collections.
  • Israel & The OPT: Crusaders in the Holy Land - Archaeology-focused tour following the path of the crusaders.
  • China: A Journey through Chinese Imagery - The influence of Confucianism, Buddhism and Daoism on China's visual culture, through paintings, porcelain, calligraphy, sculpture and architecture.
