The entrance now features curved wave-shaped walls to reflect the water front location, and groups attending the tower will begin their visit by watching the pre-show, Sail of the Solent.

The animation offers visitors an immersive overview of the history of the tower and Portsmouth, and will include cameos from cartoon character versions of famous faces like Arthur Conan Doyle, King Henry VIII and Lord Nelson.

The show also teaches groups about the stories and characters that are associated with Portsmouth, and covers over 1,700 years of history.

Sarah Webb, general manager at Emirates Spinnaker Tower, commented, “Our redevelopment project allows the tower experience to start on the ground floor and creates a real anticipation before guests reach the incredible birds-eye views available from the top. I am delighted with the results and am sure it will prove a hit with our visitors too.”

The refurbishment is the result of an investment from managing directors, Continuum Attractions and the new design has been designed to help improve visitor flow for the guests that visit the tower annually.

Juliana Delaney, chief executive of Continuum Attractions, added, “The Emirates Spinnaker Tower has been a treasured part of our portfolio for just over ten years; we’re thrilled to now be able to extend the ‘wow’ moment for our guests as they enter the front door. Following the success of the reinvigorated café offering in 2012, it’s fantastic to add another new element to the visitor experience to mark a new chapter for the tower.”

About the Emirates Spinnaker Tower

The 170 metre tall viewing tower offers visitors panoramic views of the city of Portsmouth and its harbour.

The tower was built in 2005 with a sail design to represent Portsmouth’s naval heritage and includes three decks that groups can visit. Deck one is 328 feet high and includes the i-view interactive interpretation exhibition and the sky walk. Deck two is 344 feet high and is home to the tower’s café, and the sky deck.

The sky deck allows for long distance views and guests can use the attraction’s talking telescopes for even further views.
