Emirates Air Line hailed as London’s must-see attraction

Date Posted: 30/06/2012

The UK’s first urban cable car - the Emirates Air Line - has been hailed as London’s newest must-see attraction.

Providing a new river crossing in east London, connecting the O2 Arena and ExCeL, groups travelling on the Emirates Air Line can take in spectacular bird’s eye views of the city.

The cable car system looks set to become a visitor attraction in its own right, as well as a useful transport link.

Offering 360-degree views, groups can take in landmarks such as Canary Wharf, historic Greenwich, the Thames Barrier and the Olympic Park from heights of 90-metres.

London’s “must-see destination”

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, referred to the cable car system as: “...a stunning addition to London’s transport network.”

He continued: “I am sure the Emirates Air Line is set to be a must-see destination in its own right, giving people the chance to drink in breath-taking panoramic views.”

Group fares

Those on a group trip to London can use their Oyster pay-as-you-go cards to take a flight on the Emirates Air Line.

A single fare boarding pass will cost £3.20, and groups seeking the experience of an extended journey can opt for a non-stop return for £6.40.

The Emirates Airline has the capacity to carry up to 2,500 people per hour in each direction.

Journey times during commuter hours are approximately five minutes, operating at slower speeds during non-commuter periods.
