Feast your Eyes: The Fashion of Food in Art

Showing from the 6th October until the 6th January, this exhibition celebrates the representation of food over the past five centuries, exploring fashions in food and drink throughout Europe from the 16th to the 21st century.

Feast your Eyes will draw on cookery books, artwork, accounts and letters to discover the dining habits and tastes of our ancestors. There will also be an events programme featuring talks on various aspects of the history and social history of food, practical workshops and food and drink tasting events.

Beyond Bagpuss - an Artist's Journey

Artist Linda Birch, illustrator of Bagpuss and The Clangers, is holding an exhibition of her work at The Bowes Museum from the 20th October until the 17th February.

An exploration of Linda’s paintings and illustrations, from her early days of working with animators Peter Firmin and Oliver Postgate, through her long career as painter, teacher and writer; it will feature work from Bagpuss, along with artwork from the BBC’s Jackanory, plus around 40 works outlining her 40-year career.
