Downton Abbey finished its sixth series in December, so Dundas Castle in West Lothian, Scotland has launched its own Downton Experience for fans who want to experience life in a stately home in real life.

Whether you want to live like a lord, cook like Mrs Patmore or just learn how things were done in the past, the Downton Experience gives visitors to Dundas Castle a first-hand experience of life in a grand house. 

Dundas Castle can be booked as an exclusive-use destination – it’s got 17 bedrooms – and the Downton Experience can be booked for a group who’d like to include overnight stays.

Alternatively, group travel organisers can book the Downton Experience as a daytime event for up to 20 people.

Life in a mansion, upstairs and downstairs

Tailored to individual requirements, the package features downstairs activities including learning how to make a bed like a housemaid, cooking with owner Sir Jack Stewart Clark’s private chef, and polishing the shoes or silver.

Upstairs is described as much more sumptuous and guests can choose to live like a lord, enjoying meals served by the staff in the stylish croquet room where the Stewart-Clark family dines.

Additional upstairs activities throughout a stay will include shooting tuition on the estate with the game keeper and a private tour of the house revealing full details of life at Dundas.

Visitors are also more than welcome to explore the house in their own time to get the taste of a life of a lord or lady in the comfort and surroundings of a Scottish stately home.
