Corrie treads the boards

Date Posted: 23/12/2010

Long-running soap Coronation Street will tread the boards in a new comedy play written by playwright and scriptwriter, Jonathan Harvey.

Touring the UK from February to July, Corrie! The Play was written to coincide with the soap’s 50th anniversary, and condenses five decades of favourite storylines and characters into one comic show.

Directed by Fiona Buffini, Corrie! features more than 55 characters, played by six different actors, who have been immortalised on the famous cobbles, including Bet Lynch, Elsie Tanner, Hilda Ogden, Ken Barlow, Jack Duckworth and Gail Platt. Audiences can relive storyline highlights including Deirdre’s imprisonment and Tracey killing Charlie. Former Coronation Street stars will play the role of the narrator in separate performances.

The tour begins at Cambridge Arts Theatre on the 10th February, visiting venues nationwide including: Sheffield’s Lyceum Theatre (7th to 12th March); Manchester Palace Theatre (4th to 9th April); Richmond Theatre (18th to 23rd April); Cardiff Millennium Centre (25th to 30th April); Ipswich Regent Theatre (11th to 14th May); Bradford Alhambra Theatre (24th to 28th May); Stoke-on-Trent’s Regent Theatre (6th to 11th June); Hull New Theatre (20th to 25th June); and Malvern Festival Theatre (27th June to 2nd July).
