Ramblers Worldwide Holidays has launched a programme of European river cruise holidays that incorporate gentle guided walks to explore the local areas.

The emphasis of the ‘Adagio’ programme is on gentle strolls, rather than strenuous walks, and should appeal to walking groups who enjoy exploring.

Group travel organisers can choose to book from three seven-night cruise itineraries. The cruises will be onboard river cruisers from AmaWaterways’ fleet.

The Danube on foot: This trip on board the river cruiser, AmaCerto embarks in the German city of Vilshofen and includes walks along the River Vils to Schweiklberg Monastery; a lunchtime cruise to Passau in the Austrian Lake District; breakfast in Vienna and a walking tour of Budapest and Margaret Island.

The Rhine on foot: Taking guests through the Black Forest region, this group holiday includes a ride on the Belchen cable car, a visit to the picturesque village of Staufen; excursions to the Alsatian vineyards around Dambach La Ville; and the opportunity to explore historic Amsterdam.

The Rhone on foot: This river cruise embarks in the city of Arles, Provence. Highlights include walks through the Alpilles hills; a visit to the hilltop village of Les Baux de Provence; a dinner-time cruise to Avignon; an excursion to the ancient caves of Soyons; and a tour of Lyon.
