Civil War in Newcastle

Date Posted: 20/01/2011

Tyne & Wear’s Discovery Museum is hosting a new History exhibition from the 12th February. Running until the 30th October, Siege and Storm: Civil War in Newcastle tells the story of Newcastle during the 17th century English Civil Wars, and explores the opposing sides of Royalist versus Parliament during the siege and storming in 1644.

Oliver Cromwell's replica death mask and period weapons will feature as key objects, as the display brings together documented stories from the English Civil War with original objects. Students will find out fascinating facts such as why Charles I was held prisoner, and what's behind the motto of the city - Fortiter Defendit Triumphans!

The Discovery Museum offers a host of benefits for groups, including a refreshment voucher for coach drivers, free familiarisation visits, and a free introduction, in addition to guided tours for pre-booked parties.
