Christmas visit to the Queen’s residences

Date Posted: 18/06/2015

The Royal Collection Trust has announced what visitors can expect at the official residences of Her Majesty the Queen this Christmas.

The Royal Collection Trust has revealed what visitors can expect to see this Christmas at Her Majesty the Queen’s Windsor Castle and Palace of Holyroodhouse, in Edinburgh

A Regency-themed display at Windsor Castle, open from 8th November to 5th January 2016, will show how George IV celebrated Christmas at the castle in the early 19th century, whilst the Octagon Dining Room will be decorated with yew to recreate Queen Charlotte’s – George IV’s mother – decoration of the castle.

At the Palace of Holyroodhouse, decked with wreaths, garlands and over 20,000 lights, groups can see the Royal Dining Room laid out with pieces from a silver service presented by Scottish benefactor Sir Alexander Grant to George V and Queen Mary in 1935 to mark their Silver Jubilee.

For the first time, the palace garden will also be open during the festive period for groups to explore the four hectares of greenery. The palace displays will be on show from 5th December until 5th January 2016.

Groups can also enjoy private evening tours of the royal residences on selected dates in December.
