Christmas entertainment Southbank Centre style

Groups planning a visit to London’s Southbank Centre over the festive season can look forward to a host of seasonal entertainment, from classical concerts and theatrical performances, to Christmas markets.

Classical music fans can enjoy Messiah by Candlelight at the Royal Festival Hall on 10th December, comprising four soloists from the London Philharmonic Choir; while Berlinoz’s oratorio L’enfance du Christ will be performed at Queen Elizabeth Hall on the 8th December. English Tenor Russell Watson will present a Christmas concert in aid of The Prince’s Trust on 13th December.

New music and dance love story The Bollywood Trip is set to run from 12th to 18th December; followed by Murmurs - a sublime mix of acrobatics and illusion - running from 20th December to 2nd January; and White, a magical monochrome show for young children, running from 17th to 31st December. For seasonal traditions with a twist there’s A John Waters Christmas on the 5th December; The Colour of Nonsense running from 19th to 30th December; and The Spaghetti Western Orchestra running from the 5th to 11th January.  Literary enthusiasts can also enjoy ‘Celebrate: Economist Books of the Year’ - a series of talks featuring writers of some of the most acclaimed books of 2011.

Groups shopping for Christmas gifts can visit the Cologne Christmas Market, returning to Queen’s Walk from the 18th November to 24th December. Further festive food offerings include the Real Food Christmas Markets scheduled for the weekends of 2nd to 4th and 16th to 18th December; and the Christmas Chocolate Festival 9th to 11th December.
