Charleston Festival 2015

Date Posted: 12/02/2015

Running between 15th and 25th May, the annual festival will return to the South Downs with a new programme packed full of events.

Promoting original thought through the creative mediums of literature, theatre and the visual arts, the Charleston Festival will celebrate its 26th year with an inspirational line-up of events.

Guest speakers this year will include a host of internationally acclaimed writers and thinkers, from novelist David Nicholls and playwright Tom Stoppard to Gardeners’ World presenter and horticultural specialist Monty Don.

With this year’s line-up described as ‘an embarrassment of cultural riches’, highlights will include book discussions by best-selling novelists such as Ali Smith, as well as key social and economic debates.

In addition, double Man Booker Prize winner Peter Carey will deliberate over the issues surrounding surveillance and cyber-activism, before discussing his own latest novel, Amnesia.

The festival will also explore a selection of themes, from the work of Virginia Woolf to examinations of Alice in Wonderland and the history and symbolic importance of the Suffragettes and the Magna Carta.
