Celebrate an English Christmas at Waddesdon

Date Posted: 23/07/2012

Waddesdon Manor has a whole host of festive activities planned for this season.

Each year the Christmas decorations at Waddesdon have a different theme. This year, the National Trust property is continuing its tour of the five European countries where the founding sons of the Rothschild dynasty made their fortunes, with England the focus for this year.

English-themed decorations

Traditional Christmas wreaths at the front door, bowler hats and rolled up copies of The Times will leave groups in no doubt that the decorations throughout the East and Bachelors’ wing have a very English theme.

London’s great sights – Big Ben, Trafalgar Square and Nelson’s column are outlined in the Oval Hall.

The Blue Dining Room celebrates English tea time; Union jacks and bulldogs adorn the Armoury Corridor; the Smoking Room will feature pearly kings and queens; and the kitchen corridor, leading from the restaurant to the shop, will be transformed into Covent Garden Market.

For children, characters from Alice in Wonderland adorn the Pantry Corridor and the Coach House will be transformed into a scene from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Festive events

Group travel organisers might be interested in a special event to be held at the manor on the 8th December, which will celebrate Christmas with carol singing and entertainment.

The annual Christmas Food Festival will also be held between the 8th and the 16th December.
