Cathedral flower festival depicts the Creation

Date Posted: 28/09/2012

Ely’s magnificent medieval cathedral in Cambridgeshire will host one of the east of England’s largest flower festivals next summer, running from 20th to 23rd June.

The theme of the 2013 Ely Cathedral Flower Festival is ‘In the Beginning’ and the cathedral’s interior will be transformed into a mass of flowers depicting the Creation.

A river of flowers

Floral displays will represent the land, sea, sun, moon and creatures of the land, ocean and air.

A ‘river’ of water and flowers will snake down the Nave, culminating in a large display under Ely Cathedral’s famous Octagon Tower.

Musical performances and floral demonstrations

Groups will be able to enjoy a programme of musical performances as part of the festival. Included in the ticket price, listen to visiting choirs and orchestras from around the world.

There will also be floral demonstrations, lunches, cream teas, and gift shopping; plus walks around the monastic buildings, beautiful parkland and meadows.

Coach parking

Group travel organisers planning a coach trip to the flower festival should note that there will be specially designated off-site parking for coaches, with a park and ride service to the cathedral.
