British Museum and RSC re-visit Shakespeare’s stories

Date Posted: 04/11/2011

The British Museum, in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company, will be presenting Shakespeare Staging The World from the 19th July until the 25th November.

This major exhibition will revisit William Shakespeare’s stories and tell them anew. 400 years ago, the playwright used the playhouse - an exciting new way to present drama - to showcase his own particular take on history and contemporary cultures from across the world. The display will provide an insight into the emerging role of London as a world city, seen through the lens of Shakespeare’s plays.

Visiting groups will be able to see maps, prints, drawings, paintings and tapestries, alongside arms and armour, books, coins, medals and much more. These objects will demonstrate Shakespeare’s importance at the time, and reveal how one man’s work holds such universal appeal.

Groups planning a visit to the British Museum can take advantage of tour and lecture packages. Special rates are also available for charging exhibitions during weekday visits.
