Borde Hill Garden’s golden anniversary

Date Posted: 03/12/2014

In 2015 it will be 50 years since Borde Hill Garden in Sussex opened to the public. To celebrate, it’s holding a series of special events throughout the year.

In April, the garden will be running guided tours that will introduce visitors to the seasonal magnolia displays. These tours will be taken by the head gardener, Andy Stevens.

Another highlight of the calendar comes in May, when renowned sculpture Angela Conner will launch an exhibition in the grounds. This display will combine bespoke pieces by Angela herself and work by the South East’s most notable contemporary artists.

Throughout the year, guided tours will also be available of Borde Hill House, an Elizabethan mansion that dates back to 1590.

In total, Borde Hill Garden covers 17 acres and flows into a series of ‘garden rooms’, which each have a theme. Beyond the formal garden there’s also parkland with the largest collection of ‘champion trees’ in a private collection in Britain.
