Christmas at Blists Hill

Groups visiting Blists Hill Victorian Town in Shropshire’s Ironbridge Gorge during December can enjoy a new festive themed talk and a choice of two Christmas lunch menus.

Visitors can choose from a traditional meal including either roast turkey or a nut roast with seasonal vegetables and roast potatoes, or a lighter option with a hot turkey bap or nut roast burger and a side dish of roast potatoes.

Available on selected weekdays during December for groups of 20 or more, both lunch options must be pre-booked. Admission to the Victorian town costs an additional fee.

A new festive-themed talk can also be pre-booked. The talk will reveal how modern Christmas traditions have their roots in Victorian customs, from familiar foods and decorations to the rise of the Christmas tree and sending cards.

The price for the talk includes a visit to Blists Hill and tea or coffee and a mince pie.

Groups can pair their lunch or festive talk with a walk around the festively decorated streets, shops and cottages of the recreated Victorian town, and chat to the residents (played by actors) as they prepare for Christmas.

There will also be a chance for some present shopping. Gifts on offer will include cast-iron paperweights and doorstops, handmade plaster decorations and rocking horses, all produced in The Gorge by craftsmen and women.

Christmas weekends

Groups can also take advantage of special rates at Blists Hill Victorian Town during the two Victorian Christmas weekends of 3rd and 4th, and 10th and 11th December.

A host of traditional Christmas celebrations from the 1800s will be taking place on both weekends, like live music from a brass band and other seasonal entertainment.
