Following a £50,000 restoration, Blenheim Palace’s Indian Room has re-opened especially for groups.
The Indian Room, which overlooks the Water Terraces, is available to groups for dining experiences from Searcys, the oldest catering company in the UK, as well as being a designated area to relax. Set lunch menus are on offer.
History
In the early 19th century, the Indian Room, as it is called now, was decorated by the fifth Duke of Marlborough with wallpaper depicting an Indian tiger hunt.
The room, known as the Gallery Room at that point, was used extensively by the family as a billiard room, a school room, a summer ladies room and was also the place where Sir Winston Churchill would often sit to eat his breakfast.
As part of the restoration specialist art and wallpaper conservationists repaired and removed the stains from the wallpaper, which had accumulated over the years.
Tours for 2016
For 2016, groups can enjoy three new tours at the palace where there will be an opportunity to explore never-been-seen-before rooms.
Each tour will look at a different side of life at Blenheim Palace. The Upstairs Tour, the Downstairs Tour and the Private Apartments Tour will offer an insight into the work habits of staff past and present and will be a chance to see the private bedrooms where the Marlborough family lived and served.
Additional specialist tours at Blenheim Palace this year include: Sir Winston Churchill & Blenheim Palace, The Battle of Blenheim, Ceramics & Furniture and The Military Marlboroughs.

Discounted admission rates are available to groups of 15 or more.
One tour leader per group, Blue Badge Guides, carers and coach drivers also receive complimentary admission.
