Almeida Festival returns to London this July

Date Posted: 17/04/2012

The Almeida Festival returns this summer from the 2nd to 28th July, celebrating the best of International theatre.

London’s Almeida Theatre will present productions by Inua Ellams, Inspector Sands, Custom/Practice and Lost Dog, with return visits from the TEAM and Greyscale.

The festival aims to enable theatre-going groups to hear new and diverse theatre voices, and a programme of one-off events will also be announced shortly.

Inua Ellams’ Black Watch starts the festival, and will be performed on the 2nd and 3rd July. This will be followed by Inspector Sands’ Mass-Observation from the 5th to 8th and 13th to 14th July.

Shakespeare comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be retold by Custom/Practice, with performances on the 16th, 17th, 20th and 21st July. This edited production moves from a bleak inner city school detention room to a fantastical world of forests and fairies.

Then from the 23rd July, Lost Dog presents its latest show It Needs Horses/Home for Broken Turns, telling the tale of two down-at-heel performers and their increasingly desperate attempts to entertain the crowd.
