A sea of change at NMM

Date Posted: 19/07/2011

London’s National Maritime Museum has just completed a £35 million development project, with the public opening of its Sammy Ofer Wing. It boasts a new entrance, a space for special exhibitions, an open archive research centre including interactive galleries, a cafe, brasserie, shop, upgraded visitor facilities and flexible new learning spaces.

Alongside the launch is the opening of a new exhibition called High Arctic. Set in one of many possible futures, the display conveys the scale, beauty and fragility of our Arctic environment, through an immersive installation which fills the entire gallery. Intended to be a future vision of a receding world, it encourages visiting groups to question our relationship with what’s around us.
