New National Civil War Centre to open

Date Posted: 28/02/2015

The UK’s first ever National Civil War Centre is to open on 2nd May, in the market town of Newark, Nottinghamshire.

The British Civil Wars, fought in the 17th century, made up some of the most tumultuous periods in this country’s history. The centre will provide a complete insight into the clash between Royalists and Parliamentarians that helped shape Britain as it is today.

There will be an opportunity to discover why brother fought brother, father fought against son and how a once all-powerful monarch lost his kingdom and his head.

The first of its kind in the UK, the £5.4 million centre is located on the site of Newark’s Grade II Old Magnus Building. Group visits are available.
