We countdown ten fun, brilliant options for stag and hen groups so you can organise something memorable.

Long gone are the days in which stag and hen parties simply went to the local pub in order to raise a glass to those about to tie the knot. Today’s groups want to mark the end of single life with an event guaranteed to provide great memories.

This cultural shift in expectation has opened up the market to a host of exciting activities and destinations that meet the expectations of today’s parties, who will be looking for high quality, affordable and flexible packages that result in fantastic group breaks or holidays.

The key to successful event planning for group travel organisers in this niche market is to consider value – the greatest weekends need not be the most expensive but they do have to be creative. Combining an affordable weekend away with a hilarious or unique activity and a great night out, need not blow the budget but must always deliver great experience. We spoke to Simon Denning, from leading stag events company StagWeb and sister group GoHen, to get the lowdown on ten of the most popular and memorable ways to celebrate.

Coasteering in Cornwall: In gentleman’s terms, ‘Coasteering’ involves exploring the coastline in an exhilarating and adventurous manner. The reality involves quite a lot of water and a huge amount of adrenaline. For those keen to mark the end of their single life with a high octane activity; scrambling over, climbing up and jumping off dramatic cliffs into the open sea should be high on the list, and there is no better place for it than the craggy Cornish coast line.

Marque Horse racing: Royal Ascot, The Derby, The Gold Cup to name just a few, are big events in society’s calendar and combining such a fine spectacle with a stag or hen break, is a fantastic way to add verve to the occasion. Horseracing is a spectacle in itself; sporting excellence, thoroughbreds, beautiful people, gambling, hospitality, entertainment, and, of course, the occasional drink. Arrive in a limo, crack open the champagne – you can bet that no-one is likely to forget such a prestigious event.

Six Nations Rugby Fixtures: There are certain activities guaranteed to keep a group of men as happy as small boys in a sweet shop, and a stag weekend that involves a Rugby Six Nations fixture is a winner. Rugby fans will know that games are usually hard fought contests and all the cities they are based in: London, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Dublin, Rome and Paris, are among the best party venues in Europe. In fact, any premier sporting event will get a thumbs up from stags looking for a once-in-a-lifetime weekend.

Extreme Dodgems: If the Stag is a popular fellow, chances are that he will have attended many a stag event and might be a little jaded at the thought of anything but the exceptional and, with a growing number of hens choosing more adventurous activities, you can bet that not many will have tried extreme driving activities. For petrol heads and adrenaline junkies, the perfect destination will be Birmingham, where the brave can try their hand at Extreme Dodgems. Racing 1300cc stock cars, eight at a time around a 700 metre track is not for the faint hearted but will get the thumbs up from most stag parties.

Tank paintballing: Paintballing is a fail-safe group activity for both guys and girls but you can be certain that not many will have fired a 40mm paintball from the cannon of a fully armoured FV432s World War Two tank. Paintballing does not get more extreme than this; and for those who cannot decide between motor sports and paintballing it’s the perfect combo for great stag and hen weekends.

Golf in La Manga, Spain: Enjoying a shared activity is the essence of any great celebration weekend and the winning formula doesn’t have to be an adrenaline-fuelled adventure. What could be more civilized than a weekend at Spain’s leading golf resort? Nestled in the sun kissed south east of Spain, La Manga is a favourite with professional teams and sportsman from all over Europe. With three spectacular courses offering a challenge to beginners and experienced golfers alike, a stag weekend in the warm climate of the Mediterranean is a great bonding experience for the whole group.

The X Factor: If creating the perfect stag and hen event is about creating memories, then there can be no better event that making a pop video with your closest friends. It’s a full A-list experience that comes complete with a choreographer, cameraman and a fantastic team of make-up artists. It’s the perfect chance to strut your stuff. It would be a great DVD to show at the wedding and provides guaranteed amusement for many years after.

Chocolate Making
Food and love have been intricately linked for centuries and there are few that do not succumb to the sensual power of luxurious handmade Belgium chocolate. So getting a group of friends together to learn the seductive skills of the chocolatier is the perfect celebration for any bride to be. An introduction to the fascinating history of chocolate, the raw ingredients, the skill of tempering and delectable decorating will culminate with the creation of your very own hand-made Belgium truffles.

Medieval Magic: Just a short flight away, Croatia is one of the latest destinations to add a wow factor to any stag or hen event. With a fashionable Italian influence, the city of Zagreb boasts a charming medieval ‘old city’ with architecture and picture-postcard cobbled streets reminiscent of Budapest, Prague and other central European capitals. Relatively new to the tourism map, Zagreb really does offer it all, from action-packed weekends, to the warm welcome of Croatian hospitality.

Bollywood Babes: Glamour, giggles and Mumbai moves are always a big hit with the girls.
