Ski Afghanistan - Bamian

Ahead of January’s Adventure Travel Show, organisers have asked exhibitors for their pick of 2015 travel adventures – here’s six to tempt the intrepid explorer in you.

1.    Ski Afghanistan - Bamian

Afghanistan is back on the tourist map, touted as a paradise for those who love mountains and mountain people. After five successful seasons in Afghanistan, Untamed Borders - the only company to offer ski tours in the country - is returning to the Bamian region in 2015.

This trip will be led by an internationally certified mountain guide assisted by local Afghan ski guides. Guests do not need any prior experience of ski touring and there are slopes suitable for all standards of skiers.

It is a chance to experience the natural beauty of Afghanistan combined with skiing in one of the least visited regions in the world.

There will also be time to visit the remains of the world's largest standing Buddha statues that overlook the town and the ancient cities of Shah e Zohak and Shah e Golghola.

2.    Jordan Mountain Biking - Dead 2 Red

If you’re a keen mountain biker and you like adventure travels then Jordan Mountain Biking could be for you. On this nine-day K E Adventure trip, you will witness the stunning views across the ‘Promised Land' from the spiritual site of Mount Nebo before descending to the shores of the Dead Sea.

Groups will traverse one of the longest canyons in Jordan, arriving at the high mountain plateau of Dana, where the panorama includes the Wadi Araba desert, far below.

You will then cycle the descent through the Valley of Moses to Petra, where a welcome rest and exploration day at the ancient 'rose-red city' awaits.

You’ll also get a chance to spend a night under the stars with Bedouin hosts. From there it’s a short ride to the Red Sea for a drink and swim to end this action-packed trip.

Chile Adventure Tours

3.    Chile Adventure Tours

Stretching half the length of the continent, this Chile adventure tour by Tucan Travel allows you to see the land of rugged natural beauty and vibrant modern cities.

From the volcanic peaks in the Atacama Desert, the world’s driest, and along the Andes mountain range to vast vineyards outside the capital, Santiago, a Chile adventure tour makes for an ever changing journey.

The highlight for many on the Chile adventure tour is travelling through the vast windswept region of Patagonia to the Torres del Paine National Park, known for its varied wildlife and stunning natural scenery.

4.    Trek the Waitukubuli National Trail Dominica

Groups can experience what’s thought to be the Caribbean's first and only long distance walking trail, the Waitukubuli National Trail with World Expeditions. Along the route, you will discover the nature and culture of Dominica on this adventurous jungle trek.

The trail climbs slopes carpeted with rainforests, descends dramatic gorges, crosses rivers and takes in waterfalls and sulphur springs.

Showcasing virgin forest and the best of Dominica's nature, culture and local lifestyles, the National Trail passes through old plantations, skirts along coastal cliffs, meanders past fertile farms and stops by small villages.

5.    Dolpo Trek

Trek Nepal will be showcasing a special trek in the Dolpo region. Throughout this trek the Himalayan range can be seen in its entire splendour. Phoksondo Lake, the deepest lake in Nepal, and the Ringmo village, provide some of the most exceptional scenery in little known western Nepal.

The trail follows the ancient Tibetan salt caravan route, across two high passes and through the wilderness in one of Nepal’s most remote and least developed areas.

In the Dolpo region the monsoon, created by the sea winds blowing from the Gulf of Bengal, is tempered by the Dhaulagiri range, and trekking is therefore also possible during the summer, a period during which the native flora, including edelweiss, campanulas and forget-me-nots, bloom into colour.

 Best of Cambodia and Vietnam

6.    Best of Cambodia and Vietnam

Dragoman picked its 18-day tour from Bangkok to Hanoi that showcases the best of Cambodia and Vietnam.

On this trip, you will visit the stunning ancient temples of Angkor, and be immersed in Vietnam’s markets and vibrant streets.

You’ll also spend time travelling around Bangkok in a tuk-tuk; have the chance to get a taste of real Cambodian life on a homestay; experience vintage culture in Hoi An and stay overnight on a Halong Bay boat trip.

The Adventure Travel Show, now in its 19th year, will take place at London’s Olympia on 17- 18 January 2015. The show gives visitors chance to gain adventure travel inspiration and discover off the beaten track travel experiences.
